We hope that you will encounter no difficulties in obtaining your visa for entry
 into the United States. To qualify for a non-immigrant F-1 or J-1 visa, you mus
t prove that the sole purpose of your travel to the United States is to pursue a
 program of study or research; provide evidence of adequate funding to cover you
r U.S. expenses; and demonstrate convincing reasons for returning to China after
 completing your study or research in the United States. The visa will be denied
 if you are unable to satisfy these three requirements. 

If you are denied a visa, we ask that you immediately send the information reque
sted below by e-mail (govrel@nafsa.org), fax (202.737.3657), or mail (NAFSA: Ass
ociation of International Educators, 1307 New York Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20
005). NAFSA: Association of International Educators is a non-profit, non-governm
ental organization that promotes the exchange of students and scholars to and fr
om the United States. The information you provide will give NAFSA a factual basi
s for its discussions with the Department of State about improving the procedure
s for F and J visa issuance in China. For those discussions, NAFSA must gather t
he data necessary to document the current visa denial practices of the U.S. cons
ulates in different cities. The data that you provide in response to the followi
ng questions will be most helpful in this effort.
